Mann Meets PM, Seeks Economic Package

New Delhi, March 24: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Thursday and urged him to provide his state Rs 50,000 crores for two years each in view of the financial crunch. Mann told the media after the meeting that he made the request as the earlier government had left behind a whopping debt.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, who took office on March 16, also said he desired the support of the Central government to maintain national security in the border state of Punjab. Without referring to Pakistan by name, Mann said the “enemy” used the latest techniques and equipment against India and Punjab too would desire the latest equipment to tackle the security challenges. He quoted Modi as saying that the Centre would give “all possible support” to Punjab and that the Prime Minister would soon speak to Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding his requests.
