New Delhi, July 18: On the first day of the Monsoon Session, Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm on Monday for Presidential polls.
On the first day of the session, newly elected Lok Sabha members took their oaths and Speaker Om Birla congratulated them and stated that there was no vacant seat in the House at present.
Four new Lok Sabha MPs – Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi, BJP, from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh; Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirauha’, BJP, from Azamgarh, UP; Shatrughan Sinha, TMC, from Asansol, West Bengal and Simranjit Singh Mann, Akali Dal (Amritsar), from Sangrur, Punjab, took oath.
Birla also paid tribute to former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated on July 8 during a campaign rally in Nara region. The Speaker remembered Abe’s contribution towards enhancing India-Japan ties.
Tributes were also paid to former UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and former Kenya President Mwai Kibaki, who passed away since the last session of the parliament.
As Opposition MPs raised the matter of notices given by them, Birla said: “Today is Presidential election, every election is a festival of democracy”, and adjourned the House till 2 pm.
