JNU Gets It’s First Woman Vice-Chancellor, Know Details
New Delhi, Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit (59), a professor at the Savitribai Phule University in Pune, has been made the Vice-Chancellor of The Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi succeeding controversial VC M. Jagadesh Kumar who had been appointed as chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) three days ago, in a move that was questioned by the JNU teachers’ association (JNUTA) , whose secretary Moushumi Basu said she was “shocked”.
A Ministry of Education official said that the appointment of Pandit is for a period of five years: “President Ram Nath Kovind, who is Visitor to the University, has approved the appointment of Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit as JNU Vice Chancellor. Her appointment is for a period of five years”.
JNU is her alma mater from where she completed her MPhil and PhD degrees. She began her teaching career in 1988 in Goa University and joined Pune University in 1993.
