New Delhi: India recorded 1,94,720 new coronavirus infections, taking the country’s total tally cases to 3,60,70,510, along with 442 deaths, pushing the death toll to 4,84,655 as per the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday.
The active caseload currently stands at 9,55,319 while 60,405 people recovered taking the total tally of recoveries to 3,46,30,536.
The active cases comprise 2.65 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 96.01 per cent, the ministry said.
Daily positivity rate is at 11.05 percent while the weekly positivity rate is at 9.82 per cent.
Meanwhile, India’s Omicron tally on Wednesday reached 4,868, of which, 1805 have either recovered or have been discharged.
Maharashtra topped the count with 1281 cases, followed by Rajasthan (645) and Delhi (546).
Delhi on Tuesday reported 21,259 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day infections recorded since May, and 23 deaths, as the positivity rate climbed to 25.65 per cent.
The cumulative numbers of infections now stand at 15,90,155 and the death toll at 25,200.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal said there will be no lockdown in the national capital and all restrictions will be gradually lifted as and when the cases and fatality rate starts decreasing.
As part of containment measures, the Delhi government on Tuesday directed closure of all private offices, except those in exempted categories, amid rising number of Covid-19 cases.
An order issued by Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) also directed for closing of restaurants and bars in the city.
“India has administered 153.80 doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far.
More than 157.13 crores vaccine doses have been provided to the States/UTs so far.
Over 16.50 crores balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, India has started administering the third ‘precautionary doses’ to priority groups — health care workers, frontline workers and those aged above 60 years with comorbidities on Monday.
According to the Centre’s directions, the third dose will be of the same vaccine as the first two doses, after an interval of nine months.
