New Delhi Jan 5: India recorded 58,097 fresh COVID1-9 cases in the last 24 hours, which is almost 55 percent higher than Tuesday’s tally of 37,379, according to the data issued by the Health Ministry on Wednesday.
The total death toll climbed to 4,82,551 with the addition of 534 related fatalities in the last 24 hours, the data stated.
As per the ministry, the total active cases in the country currently stand at 2,14,004 cases, which is less than 1 per cent of total cases, i.e. at 0.61 per cent.
The recovery tally rose to 3,43,21,803 as 15,389 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours and the the Recovery Rate is currently at 98.01 per cent.
Meanwhile, A total of 2,135 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been reported across 23 states and Union Territories so far, out of which 828 have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data updated on Wednesday.
Maharashtra has recorded the maximum number of 653 cases followed by Delhi at 464, Kerala 185, Rajasthan 174 and Gujarat 154.
Meanwhile, amid the surging COVID-19 cases, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has decided to impose a weekend curfew in the city.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia informed that buses and metro trains will again run at full seating capacity to avoid crowding outside metro stations and at bus stops.
The government has been continuously speeding up the vaccination drive across the country.
According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry on Friday 68.38 Crore tests for COVID-19 have been done so far.
“India has so far administered 147.72 cr doses of the COVID-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive” the Ministry’s data said.
