Colombo/New Delhi, Feb 15: India on Tuesday handed over to Sri Lanka a fuel consignment of 40,000 metric tonnes from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay handed over the fuel consignment to Sri Lankan Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila. The consignment, purchased by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) from the Indian Oil Corporation, reached the Colombo Port earlier today. Speaking at the event, Minister Gammanpila said that India has proven itself a good friend of Sri Lanka, not by words, but by actions.
The Indian High Commissioner Baglay said the two countries have a shared history and also faced difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic. India is committed to stand by Sri Lanka at this time of crisis, he said. The Indian High Commission in Colombo tweeted: “India – a committed partner and a true friend of Sri Lanka. High Commissioner handed over 40,000 MT fuel consignment by @IndianOilcl to Hon’ble Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila today. India-Sri Lanka partnership continues to work towards energy security of Sri Lanka.” The fuel consignment was delivered by the Oil tanker ‘Swarna Pushpa’ arriving from India.
