India Condemns Barbaric Terror Attack On Malian Armed Forces
New Delhi, March 8: India on Tuesday strongly condemned the “barbaric terrorist attack” on a camp of the Malian Armed Forces on March 4 at Mondoro that resulted in the killing of 27 Malian soldiers. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the lost ones, and wishes speedy recovery of those injured in the terrorist attack.
According to a statement from the Malian army, the extremists killed 27 soldiers and left 33 wounded in the attack last Friday in Mondoro, at the central region of Mopti, in the western African landlocked country. According to reports, hundreds of jihadists attacked the camp of around 150 soldiers on March 4. The jihadists seized 21 vehicles, including tanks, and injured more than 20 soldiers.
The Mondoro camp is close to the border with Burkina Faso and has been the target of several attacks in the past by jihadist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State operating in the area for several years. The camp is located in one of the main hotbeds of violence that started in northern Mali with independence and jihadist insurgencies in 2012 and has spread to central Mali and neighbouring Burkina Faso and Niger.
