Government Initiates Steps For Amendment In The Criminal Laws In India

Obviously in a bid to bring in a structural change on the Criminal laws in the country through initiation of some comprehensive amendments to the laws.

The government has, in fact, started the process, the ministry concerned informed the Rajya Sabha to amend the IPC, 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure(CrPC), 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 but after a due consultation with the stakeholders.

With the aim for speedy justice, the Minister of State, Ajay Kumar Mishra, informed that, for this a committee has been formed. It will work chairpersonship of the Vice Chancellor of the National Law University,Delhi, to advise on reforms in the above laws.

Mishra was responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha also said that, all the Governors, Chief Minsters, LGs and the administrators of Union Territorries, the Chief Justices of the High Courts and the CJI and the Bar Councils can put forward their opinions for a comprehensive amendments.

The minister also said that the government is committed to bring out a comprehensive legislation taking into account the recommendations of the committee and the suggestions received from all the stakeholders, the minister added.
