Dharam Sansad Case: SC Issues Notice To U’khand Govt Over Hate Speech
New Delhi, Jan 12: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to Uttarakhand Government after hearing a PIL seeking prosecution of those involved in making hate speeches at Haridwar Dharam Sansad in December last year.
A three-judge bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief Justice (CJI) Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana and also comprising Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli, was hearing the petition filed by Qurban Ali.
The Apex Court also allowed the petitioner to approach the local authorities with his plea to stop a proposed Dharam Sansad in Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh on January 23.
Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate Kapil Sibal submitted to the Supreme Court today that the Dharam Sansad is going to organise another congregation at Aligarh and thereby, it should be restrained from making hate speeches there, while the SC is seized of the matter.
