New Delhi, Jan 26: The Delhi High Court will hear a public interest litigation on Thursday, concerning the increasing number of Covid-19 cases and holding of Assembly elections in five states amid the pandemic. The PIL, filed by Pandit Jagdish Sharma, president of ‘Rahul Priyanka Gandhi Sena’, questioned the government preparation regarding Nove Coronavirus.
It further questioned whether elections were necessary for the government or the people of the country. He said that families who lost their loved ones during the second Covid-19 wave were still suffering. Through the petition, Sharma told the court that 484213 people have been killed so far in the country due to Covid-19. During the second wave, the government could not handle the situation and there were not enough beds in the hospitals.
The bodies were thrown into the Ganges as there was no space left for the last rites. The petition pointed out that public representatives were busy with the Assembly elections being held in five states and in such a situation, the safety of the people should be ensured.
