New Delhi, June 16 : The Delhi unit of the Congress on Thursday staged a protest here against the alleged high-handedness on party leaders and workers by Delhi police at the grand old party’s headquarters here on Wednesday, who were protesting against questioning of MP Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in National Herald case.
Several party workers-led by the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) in-charge Shaktisinh Gohil and president Anil Kumar Chaudhary held the demonstration outside the residence of the Lieutenant Governor.
Chaudhary reportedly suffered minor injuries after the police used water cannons to disperse the protestors when they tried to cross the police barricades.
“Neither your bullets nor your water cannons can not dampen our spirits. Why such ‘inhuman’ treatment of Modi’s police to Congress workers?
Yesterday, by entering our Congress headquarters, the police committed ‘hooliganism’ and today again brutality,” the Delhi Congress chief said.
Attacking the ruling BJP, Chaudhary accused the Narendra Modi-led government of using ED against political opponents.
The Congress leaders on Wednesday strongly condemned the Delhi Police for entering the party office, and said the Constitution was “crushed under bulldozers”.
Delhi Police, however, refuted the allegations made by Congress and said the allegations were untrue as no such incident took place.
