Deep Depression To Cross Odisha Coast- Sagar Islands- MET
Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: A depression over the northwest & adjoining northeast bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and is likely to cross West Bengal and Odisha coasts between Balasore & Sagar Islands around evening of Friday, Met sources here said.
After landfall it would continue to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand towards north Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually.
MeT sources said squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph very likely over North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coast. It is likely to increase to 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph from noon till midnight of Friday over North Bay of Bengal and along & off north Odisha.

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 gusting to 65 kmph during the same period along & off remaining districts of coastal Odisha, Met sources said adding it would improve gradually becoming squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 65 kmph over Northwest Bay of Bengal along & off Odisha coasts from August 20 forenoon for subsequent 24 hours.
Sea condition will be rough to very rough over North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coasts on August 19. The sea condition would gradually improve, becoming rough over Northwest Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coasts from August 20.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along & off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal till 20 August. The authority has kept hoisted Local cautionary Signal No.3 (LC-3) at all ports of Odisha
Met sources said there is likely to be Flash flood/Water logging in low-lying areas, inundation of agriculture fields, Mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas.
There will be the possibility of some damage to informal/Kutcha road, wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses, it said and warned that incessant rains triggered by the deep depression might lead to significant rise in water level of rivers.
The Met has issued a red warning for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts which will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places will witness.
Similarly, the orange warning has been issued to Kendrapara Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts
The Met sources said one or two places of these districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. Yellow warning has been issued for Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri districts.
