Declare Netaji’s birthday a National Holiday: Mamata Demands

Kolkata, Jan 23 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday renewed her appeal to the Central Government to declare Netaji’s birthday a National Holiday to allow the entire nation pay homage to the national leader and celebrate “DeshNayakDibas” in the most befitting manner. Spewing venom on the NDA Government at the Centre for exclusion of a tableau proposed by her government depicting the exploits of Netaji and the INA from Republic Day parade in the national capital, Banerjee said this year a tableau will be displayed on the Republic Day Parade on ‘Netaji’ on Indira Gandhi Sarani (erstwhile Red Road) here. the tableau will also feature other eminent freedom fighters from Bengal to commemorate the 75th year of the country’s Independence. Drawing inspiration from Netaji’s thoughts on National Planning Commission, a Bengal Planning Commission will be set up to help the state in its planning initiatives, Banerjee informed on the occasion of Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary. Among some long-term initiatives to commemorate Netaji, a National University with international collaboration, Jai Hind University, is being set up with 100 per cent state funding, the Chief Minister mentioned. Describing Netaji as a national and global icon, whose rise from Bengal is unmatched in the annals of Indian history, Banerjee said, ” He is an epitome of patriotism, courage, leadership, unity and brotherhood. Netaji has been and will continue to be an inspiration for generations. ” The state government is celebrating his 125th Birth Anniversary as “DeshNayakDibas” in a befitting manner all over the state following protocols, Banerjee said.
