CPI-M hits out at Centre over WHO Covid death numbers
New Delhi, May 6 : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday slammed the central government over World Health Organisation’s data on Covid-19 deaths in India that showed huge disparity and termed it ”inhuman”. “This is damning. Forty-seven lakh Covid deaths not the official 4.8 lakh. The least respect that the Modi government can pay is to count the unfortunate deaths. End this inhuman callousness,” CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury tweeted. He also demanded the Centre to pay compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones. According to the WHO data on Covid-19 deaths, at least 47 lakh people died between 2020 and 2021 in the country against official claims so far over 5 lakh fatalities.
