Centre Apprised About HNLC Peace Talks Offer

New Delhi, Feb 16: The Centre was on Wednesday apprised about the offer of peace talks by the proscribed militant group, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) which is active in Meghalaya. The development comes amid the recent offer of the banned insurgent group for holding peace talks within the ambit of the Indian Constitution and without any pre-conditions. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who is on an official tour to the national capital, met Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday in this regard.

“Following the required process to take forward the peace talks with HNLC, met the Home Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss the same.The Government of Meghalaya is committed to see this through,” Sangma said in a tweet, shortly after the meeting. HNLC has been fighting for a sovereign homeland for the tribal Khasi population of Meghalaya.
