A Congress Faction Demanding Organisational Polls, CWC To Be Held Soon
New Delhi, March 13 : A meeting of Congress parliamentary strategy group is being held in the national capital, and a meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC) the top decision making body of the party will meet later in the day. Senior party leaders including Rajya Sabha Leader of opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Anand Sharma and Jairam Ramesh were among the leaders who arrived for the meeting on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, reports surfaced on Saturday evening saying Congress President Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi may offer their resignations at the CWC meet. The reports were denied by the party, and Chief Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted calling the reports “unfair, mischievous and incorrect.”
In the recently concluded assembly polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained power in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur while the Aam Aadmi Party swept the polls in Punjab. Senior leaders of the party who have come to be known as G-23, a group demanding organisational elections, met here on Friday night and are expected to raise the issue again at the CWC meeting.
