According to medical adviser Surinder Dalla, Sidhu is allergic to wheat and have liver problems. That is why the former Cricketer has demanded a special diet from the jail administration. In 1988, Navjyot Singh Sidhu and his accomplice got into an argument with Gurnam Singh, a 65-year-old senior citizen, over the issue of car parking in Patiala. The dispute escalated into a brawl. Gurnam Singh was severely injured in the beating. He died during treatment. Gurnam’s family had approached the court in this regard. Sidhu was acquitted by a sessions court in 1999 for lack of evidence. However, the High Court had in 2006 sentenced Sidhu to three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh.
Following this, the Supreme Court had in 2018 imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 and released Sidhu. However, Justice. A. M. Khanwilkar and Justice. S. K. Kaul’s bench had accepted the petition seeking reconsideration of the case.
