Hijab Row Intensifies Ahead Of Karnataka HC Hearing
Bengaluru, Feb 8: Ahead of the Karnataka High Court hearing a batch of petitions pertaining to hijab row, protests on Tuesday intensified across districts in Karnataka. The protests are being staged in Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag and Bagalkot.
Classes were suspended in some parts of Karnataka after some students arrived on campuses wearing hijabs and saffron scarves. They wore hijab and saffron scarves despite the state government banning hijab and saffron scarves on campuses, through a circular.
Home Minister Araga Jnanendra ordered an investigation to ascertain which outfits are backing the students demanding permission to attend classrooms during teaching hours. Earlier Janendra had raised suspicion of radical Islamist forces being behind the protesting hijab-wearing students. Yesterday, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda had indirectly blamed the radical Islamist outfit for sowing the seeds for hijab controversy. The hearing on the matter in Karnataka High Court begins today.
