New Delhi, Feb 24 : Vladimir Putin’s aggression will cost Russia economically, politically and strategically, US President Joe Biden said while describing the Russian attack on Ukraine as “an assault on Europe.” “The Russian military has begun a brutal assault on the people of Ukraine without provocation, without justification, without necessity. This is a premeditated attack,” he said Thursday night. For weeks we have been warning that this would happen, and its unfolding as we predicted, Biden said. He said that the US will impose additional sanctions and export controls against Russia for invading Ukraine. “Today we are announcing additional sanctions, which are purposely designed for long term impact on Russia. US is not doing this alone, for months we have been building a coalition of partners that comprise half the global economy,” he said.
He said that the US will limit Russia’s ability to do business in dollars, euros, pounds and yen- to be part of the global economy. “Every asset that they have in America will be frozen,” he said. “If Russia chooses cyber attacks against our companies, our critical infrastructure, we are prepared to respond. For months we have been working closely with our private sector to harden our cyber defences,” Biden said. He said that Putin’s aggression will cost Russia economically, politically and strategically. Putin will be a pariah and we will make sure of that, said Biden. “This is a dangerous moment for all of Europe, Putin has committed an assault on Europe. This was always about naked aggression, of changing borders by force,” Biden said. I have assured Ukrainian President that the US with its allies will support Ukraine as they defend their country, he said. “In the early days of this conflict, Russia propagandists tried to hide the truth and claim success for its military operations against a made-up threat,” he said. Biden said that this was never about a genuine security concern on Russia’s part.
It was always about a naked aggression, he added. He said that the United States will defend every inch of NATO territory forcefully, however, he said that “Our forces will not be engaged in a conflict with Russia in Ukraine.” He said that he has no plans to talk to the Russian President.
