Ukraine Circulates Postal Stamp Honouring Snake Island Heroes
Kyiv, April 14 : Ukraine’s postal department has officially introduced and circulated postage stamps using expletives for Russia in postal stamp. According to The Jerusalem Post, the stamp’s illustration features an armed and armored Ukrainian soldier with his middle finger raised to a Russian vessel. In the background, the yellow ground and blue ocean represented the Ukrainian flag. On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a his photo with a stamp book. He wrote that the phrase, “which became a symbol of the steadfastness of Ukrainian defenders, is now on postage stamps.” While the domestic version in the stamp calls for “glory to heroes”, the international version says “Glory to Ukraine”, The Jerusalem Post reported. This comes amid reports of Ukrainian forces hitting the Moskva, which gained notoriety early in the war when it called on Ukrainian border troops defending the strategic Snake Island to surrender, with missile strikes. The Jerusalem Post quoted Igor Smelyansky, General Director of Ukrposhta. as saying, “The phrase that inspired us to create the postage stamp has already become a symbol of the indomitability of the AFU, the volunteers, the territorial defense, all Ukrainians in the fight for their land and the independence of Ukraine. “I am sure that Ukrainians and our friends from abroad will be pleased to receive letters with such a postage stamp. And today in this postal way we once again remind the invaders that they should immediately get off our land and follow their ship.” The Snake Island incident occurred on February 25 at a Black Sea island south of Odesa. The small Ukrainian forces of 13 personnel stationed there were recorded cursing at a Russian warship after having been asked to surrender.
