SL Opposition Wants Executive Presidency To Go
Colombo, April 5: Sri Lanka opposition leader Sajith Premadasa on Tuesday called for abolishing the Executive Presidency in the country.
“There should be no voice in Parliament, apart from the voice heard from the streets. The people want a change in the government and Parliament must understand it”, he told Parliament.
He said the proposal to abolish the Executive Presidency must be brought to Parliament this week. Premadasa added that they will not accept any ministerial position and power will only be obtained with the blessings of the people.
“Do not make deals with MPs to gather your 113. That will not serve any purpose”, he said. Notably, till now more than 40 MPs have deserted Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s coalition government.
