Pakistan: PPP Leader Rehman Malik Passes Away
Islamabad, Feb 23: Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former senator Rehman Malik passed away on Wednesday in Islamabad from coronavirus-related complications. He was 70. Malik had been put on ventilator earlier this month after his health deteriorated due to Covid-related complications. Malik had contracted Covid in January.
After his health deteriorated the former senator was initially admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Islamabad, but later when his condition continued to get worse doctors subsequently put him on a ventilator on February 1. The former senator complained of breathing problems after his lungs got affected from Covid. Malik’s nephew Waqas Malik said the former senator’s funeral prayers would be held at the mosque in Islamabad’s H-8 sector at 2:30pm on Thursday.
Rehman Malik has had a long political career wherein he held many portfolios, including that of the interior minister of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013. Malik also received the Sitara-i-Shujaat for his services in the Federal Investigation Agency and the Nishan-i-Imtiaz.
