Pakistan: Opposition Thinking About A No-Trust Move Against Buzdar
Islamabad, March 18: The opposition in Pakistan is planning to bring a no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar before March 28 to forestall the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government’s possible plan to dissolve the Punjab Assembly in case of Prime Minister Imran Khanis ousted from office, Dawn reported on Friday. The leaders of PML-N and PPP are thinking about bringing a no-trust move against Chief Minister Buzdar in the last week of this month as they feel that Prime Minister Imran Khan may ask the latter to dissolve the Punjab Assembly in case of his own ouster to make things complicated for the opposition in its post-PTI arrangements, Dawn reported.
The issue was discussed by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the PPP leaders after word got out that the dissolution of the Punjab assembly was on the cards of the PTI in case the opposition sponsored no-trust motion against Imran Khan on March 28 succeeded in the National Assembly. However, a PDM insider informed the media that the opposition had already completed the groundwork to oust Buzdar, as the Tareen group had assured the opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz that it would vote against Buzdar,” he said. The Tareen group claims to have the support of more than two dozen MPAs. Even the PML-Q, the PTI’s ally which has 10 seats in the Punjab Assembly, has also hinted at joining hands with the opposition against Chief Minister Buzdar. The Chaudhrys of Gujrat have claimed that their party has been offered the position of Punjab chief minister by the opposition in return for supporting the no-confidence motion against Khan.
