NATO Troops In Lithuania Reaches 3,000
Vilnius, March 5: Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas said on Saturday that the number of NATO troops stationed in the country has increased to 3,000 and will continue to increase. “The number of NATO troops in Lithuania has increased to 3,000, and it is constantly increasing and will continue to increase,” Anusauskas told a briefing, adding “I can reassure everyone that these forces are quite sufficient in the current situation.”
The Lithuanian government has agreed to allocate an additional 40.4 million euros ($44.2 million) to the defense ministry for the deployment of NATO troops in the country. Anusauskas said that large projects on building military settlements will be completed in two years.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, also at a briefing on Saturday, said that government expenses on defense will increase in 2022 and reach 250 million euro. “The sum that we are currently talking about this year is about 250 million euros,” Simonyte said, addressing the question about the size of the increase in defense spending.
