Making ‘Threat’ Letter Public Will Harm Country: Pakistan FO
Islamabad, April 7: As Imran Khan is set to face no-trust motion, the Foreign Office on Saturday warned against releasing the contents of “threat” letter for public as it would harm the national interest.
Geo News quoted a senior official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying, “The Foreign Office thinks overwhelmingly that foreign secretary shouldn’t make public the contents of the (coded) telegram dated March 7. “The ambassadors should be encouraged to share their assessments based on their interactions with their interlocutors of the host countries, and any step contrary to this would be detrimental to the national interest.” The official pointed out that an ambassador’s cable is never released for political purposes anywhere in the world.
Imran Khan on Saturday faced no-trust resolution passed by the opposition after many a drama, including the top court in the country being forced to step in and order the motion be conducted before April 9 evening ends. Speaker Asad Qaiser held the session in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives. While the opposition came out in full force, very few members of the treasury benches were in attendance. Prime Minister Imran Khan was conspicuously absent. UNI
