Kargil Hero Bust Unveiled By Parents

Jammu, Jan 19 : A bust of the Kargil war hero, Capt Vikram Batra, was unveiled on Wednesday by his parents in the presence of Lt Gen Y K Joshi, Army Commander, Northern Command, at the Palampur military station in Jammu and Kashmir.
Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand said the bust was unveiled by G L Batra and Kamal Kanta Batra. Also present was Lt Gen Joshi, the GOC-in-C Northern Command who was the Commanding Officer of 13 JAK Rifles during the Kargil war.
The commemoration was also graced by Maj Gen M P Singh, GOC Dah Division, Capt Vikram Batra’s school teachers R S Guleria, Suman Maini and Neelam Vats and some of his childhood friends.
At the event, the Army Commander recollected the undaunted courage of Capt Vikram Batra that inspired his men to fight valiantly and led to the capture of Point 5140, which paved the way for a string of victories in the Drass sector.
He also mentioned about the crucial role played by Capt Vikram Batra in the capture of Point 4875 in which he assaulted the enemy position along a narrow ridge that led to a fierce fight leaving five enemy soldiers dead.
“As a token of remembrance, this placement of the Bust of Capt Vikram Batra at his birthplace will serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for generations to come,” said the Commander.
