Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: Silka Selony, a name and a lady of her own kind and identity. A resident of Angul district of of Odisha, Silaka is the first woman of Odisha who reigns in the ever male-dominated field of Snake-catching. Her childhood love for nature, flora and fauna had made her invade this unusual field for profession.
Silka Selony works as a member of snake helpline Odisha. Today is her birth day and she’s showered with loads of wishes on her special day from friends, relatives and well-wishers. She bags the sole credit to incubate 64 Dhodia snakes (Indian common water snake) artificially from eggs.
Born to Akshya Naik and Minakshi Nanda she has been catching snakes from her early eighteen. Silka has dealt with more than 500 poisonous snakes yet and is an active member of snake helpline, Odisha.
