Ex-Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s Funeral On Tuesday
Tokyo, July 9: Day after former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot to death, his body returned to his home in Tokyo. His funeral will be held on Tuesday.
According to NHK World, the vehicle carrying Abe’s body arrived at his home in the Shibuya district around 1:30 pm (local time).
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also reached at the home of slain former PM.
The local media has reported that a night vigil will be held on Monday and his funeral will be held on Tuesday.
The country’s long-serving leader was shot and killed on Friday while delivering a campaign speech in the western city of Nara two days ahead of a national election.
A 41-year-old man shot at him from behind at around 11:30 am when he was speaking in front of the Yamato-Saidaiji railway station, police said. Abe, 67, collapsed to the ground after two shots were heard. He was rushed to a hospital with blood seen on his shirt, Kyodo news agency reported.
Tetsuya Yamagami, a resident of Nara, was arrested at the scene on suspicion for attempted murder, the police said. The suspect was formerly a member of the Maritime Self-Defense Force.
Yamagami, who is unemployed, told investigators that he had a grudge against Abe, believing he had promoted the group in Japan, Kyodo News reported.
