EU To Table Proposals Against Russian Oils
Kyiv, March 7: The European Commission will table proposals on Tuesday to get rid of their dependency on Russian oils, said Ursula von der Leyen, EU Commission President on Monday.
Taking to Twitter, she said, “With Italian PM Mario Draghi we are going to discuss the new sanction enforcement package we are working on. We have to make sure the effect of the sanctions is maximised. And given the Kremlin’s recklessness towards civilians we are working on further sanctions”.
She also said, “The EU Commission will table proposals on how to quickly get rid of our dependency on Russian fossil fuels on Tuesday. “This means: Diversifying suppliers, switching to LNG and pipeline gas, Repowering the EU by investing in renewables, Improving energy efficiency”.
She further said, “We will also focus on the protection of consumers. First, we need to shield the most vulnerable consumers and businesses. And more structurally, prepare for a massive increase of renewables in our electricity market”.
Reacting to her tweet, Olexander Scherba, an ex-Ukraine’s Ambassador to Austria said, “Thank you, Europe! Russian oil is 50 per cent blood and 50 per cent tears. Not good for anyone with conscience”.
