Economic Crisis; Exams Cancelled, Students Disillusioned
Mar 20: The neighbouring and friendly, Sri Lanka is currently facing a huge economic crisis. Not only this, the exams of lakhs of students in the country have been cancelled due to not being able to buy the paper. Lakhs Students and parents are cynical, on the other hand, officials say that the country does not have dollars to order papers from outside.
At the same time, education officials say that the term exam for school students was going to be held from Monday, but due to the acute shortage of paper in the country, the exam has been postponed indefinitely.
It’s pertinent to tell that Sri Lanka is going through its worst economic crisis since independence in the year 1948.
The Education Department of the Western Province here says, due to the lack of foreign exchange in the country, the paper and ink could not be sourced from outside, for which schools are unable to conduct the principal examination. It is also being said that two-thirds of the students of the country will be affected by this move of the government.
The Sri Lankan has borrowed a lot from China. It is being said that the cash crisis of about $22 million is immediately before the country and in such a situation, the government announced that it will seek a bailout package from the IMF to resolve its worsening foreign debt crisis and increase its foreign currency reserves. At the same time, the IMF has assured to discuss the request of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
