Dhaka, Jan 30 (UNI) A Bangladesh diplomat posted in India was withdrawn after he was accused of allegedly being involved in obscene video chat with a woman. The diplomat was working in the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata. While officials have stated that the allegations were being investigated, Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner to Kolkata Tawfiq Hasan has confirmed the incident.
A letter dated January 18 in this regard has been accessed by UNI. Hasan said, “A few days ago, a video was sent from a Facebook ID to our official Facebook account through its messenger. We can see in the video that a diplomat appointed in the Deputy High Commission had an obscene chat with a woman. The matter is very sensitive. The officer was sent back to Dhaka within 24 hours.” The identity of the woman remains unknown. UNI has received a copy of the transfer order from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh as well. However, the order has not stated any reason for the transfer.
It has only been said the diplomat should leave his post in Kolkata and return to the headquarters in Dhaka immediately. According to High Commission officials, the diplomat was being investigated after returning to Bangladesh. It is learned that the top echelons of the Bangladesh administration have also approached the Kolkata Deputy High Commission about the matter.
