Aung San Suu Kyi Jailed 5 Years For Corruption
Naypyidaw, April 27 : A Myanmar military court on Wednesday sentenced ousted democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi five years in prison in a corruption trial. According to The Irrawaddy, Suu Kyi has been accused of accepting a bribe of $600,000 cash and gold bars from a former regional minister. The case is one among the first of 11 corruption charges against the 76-year-old Nobel laureate, each carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years of prison, The Independent reported. She had been detained since February 2021 after a coup by the army.
