Arrange More Flights From Ukraine To India: Chandy
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 17: Former Kerala Chief Minister and AICC General Secretary Oommen Chandy on Thursday urged the Centre to arrange more flights to get its Nationals out of Ukraine amid that country’s tensions with Russia. Talking to UNI, Mr Chandy said several thousands of Keralites were stranded in Ukraine due to shortage of flight services from Ukraine to India.
Recalling history’s largest evacuation operation by the Indian Government during the Kuwait war, the Senior Congress leader also urged the Centre to take steps for such a mass evacuation of Indians from Ukraine. Meanwhile, in view of an advisory by the Indian Embassy in Kyiv, the Union Ministry of External Affairs set up a control room to assist the Indians in Ukraine.
P Sreeramakrishnan, Vice-Chairman of Kerala’s NRK welfare agency NORKA-Roots, said it has also set up a special cell to make necessary interventions in ensuring the security of Malayalees stranded in Ukraine. He said the CEO of the NORKA is also in constant touch with the External Affairs Ministry and the Indian Embassy in Ukraine.
