Los Angeles, Feb 25 : Hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine by way of a special military operation on Thursday, internet was flooded with reactions, with some supporting the former superpower, while others denouncing its decision to invade a smaller country with full force. Hollywood stars also took to their social media accounts to react over the rising situation. Angelina Jolie, Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, took to Instagram to show her support for Ukraine. She published a statement which reads as, “Like many of you, I’m praying for the people of Ukraine. My focus along with my UNHCR colleagues is that everything possible is done to ensure the protection and basic human rights of those displaced, and refugees in the region. “We have already seen reports of casualties and people starting to flee their homes to seek safety. It is too soon to know what will happen, but the significance of this moment – for the people of Ukraine, and for the international rule of law – cannot be overstated,” she added. Actor and director Sean Penn was currently in Ukraine’s capital, where he attended a press briefing at the Presidential Office.
According to a translated statement from the Ukraine government, Penn “specially came to Kyiv to record all the events that are currently happening in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country,” for a documentary, in collaboration with Vice Studios. “Sean Penn is among those, who support Ukraine in Ukraine today.
Our country is grateful to him for such a show of courage and honesty,” said a statement released by the actor. Miley Cyrus has also responded to this week’s news after she shot her ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’ music video in Kyiv. “I am standing in solidarity with everyone in Ukraine, who is affected by this attack and our global community, who is calling for an end to this violence,” she posted on social media. Mark Ruffalo also gave his reaction on Twitter. “Sending love and good prayers to all innocent people of Ukraine and Russia and Europe who are caught up in this sad and corrosive moment of asymmetrical violence and destruction, especially the young people. You have done nothing to deserve this perversion and obscene spectacle,” he posted.
