Adelaide Int’l: Bopanna-Ramanathan Wins Men’s Doubles Title
Adelaide, Jan 9: Indian men’s doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramanathan on Sunday registered a hard fought straight-sets victory to clinch the Adelaide International ATP 250 title.
The unseeded Bopanna and Ramanathan, who paired up for the first time, defeated 7-6, 6-1 top seeded Croatian-Brazilian duo of Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in the final.
This marked Bopanna’s 20th ATP doubles title win and his first with Ramanathan. Interestingly, Bopanna and Dodig had paired in the US Open last year in September, where the duo bowed out in the third round.
On their way to the final, the Indians defeated French-Monegasque pair of Benjamin Bonzi and Hugo Nys 6-1, 6-3 in quarterfinals and registered 6-2, 6-4 straight sets victory over fourth seeded Bosnian-Mexican duo of Tomislav Brkic and Santiago Gonzalez in the semi-final.
Adelaide International is a lead-up event to the Australian Open, starting January 17 in Melbourne.
