Udhampur Blast Might Have Been Caused By Low-intensity IED: ADGP Jammu

Jammu, March 9 : Hours after a mysterious blast killed one person and injured 14 others in Udhampur district on Wednesday, Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh said that the explosion was suspected to be caused by a low-intensity Improvised Explosive Device. Singh, flanked by DIG, NIA officials, CRPF officers and bomb disposal experts, visited the blast site at Salathia Chowk, Udhampur, and inspected the scene. He also visited the injured at the hospital and said the preliminary examination suggested a low intensity IED explosion. “Forensic examination and careful and minute scrutiny of the site will reveal more accurate facts. Investigation of the case has commenced,” said the top cop.
All injured are reported to be out of danger. Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who is also Member Parliament from Kathua-Udhampur Constituency tweeted, “Blast explosion around ‘Rehri’ near Tehsildar office at #Udhampur.” “One life lost, injured being moved to hospital. I am in touch with DC Indu Chib on a minute to minute basis. Exact cause and origin of the blast being worked out… too early to draw any definite conclusion,” he tweeted. Earlier, speaking to the media, Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Vinod Kumar said that injuries were reported in the mysterious explosion.
“Initially, the nature of the blast was not known, but the FSL team with other agencies are on job,” said the SSP. “We have cordoned the area and started the investigation,” he added.
