Sports Fraternity Mourns KK’s Demise
New Delhi, June 1: Indian sports fraternity on Wednesday condoled the untimely demise of acclaimed singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK.
KK, who mesmerised music buffs for over two decades with his soulful numbers, passed away at the age of 53 on Tuesday night after a concert in Kolkata.
Former India star opener Virandra Sehwag took to Twitter and said: “Tragic to hear about the passing away of KK after falling ill while performing in Kolkata. Another reminder of how fragile life is. Condolences to his family and friends.”
Ex-India captain Virat Kohli tweeted: “Lost a magnificent singer of our times and so suddenly. Condolences to his family and close ones.”
India badminton star and Thomas Cup winner Chirag Shetty also mourned the demise of popular singer, “By far one of my favourite artists! This is just so sad!” he tweeted.
“No conversation about growing up, and the 90s, is ever complete without KK and his songs.
Every one of them has a specific memory or a time in our lives, associated with it. Woke up with shock and sorrow at his passing away. Strangely, will turn to his music for solace,” said Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri. “Deeply saddened by the passing of KK. Condolences to his family and friends,” Anil Kumble said.
The former India star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took to Twitter to express his grief, “Life is so uncertain and fragile! Sad news about the tragic passing away of KK. May god grant strength to his family to bear with this loss”
Wasim Jaffer said: “Hum Rahe Ya Na Rahe Kal Kal Yaad Aayenge Yeh Pal” Heartbreaking to know that KK is no more. Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends.”
“Saddened by the untimely demise of a wonderful Singer, KK. He will live on through his music.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” VVS Laxman tweeted.
Former India spin-master Harbhajan Singh: “Devastated to know about sudden death of playback singer #KK. His soulful & melodious songs could easily connect with the hearts of millons of people . My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and followers.”
KK was among the performers in the “Josh of India” song in support of the Indian cricket team during the 1999 World Cup.
He has recorded over 700 songs and received six nominations, and won the Film-fare Awards South in 2010 for being adjudged the best male playback singer.
Born in Delhi to Malayali parents, KK sang 3,500 jingles before getting his break in the film industry. In 1999, KK came out with his maiden solo album titled Pal.
The songs “Aap Ki Dua”, “Yaaron” and the title track “Pal” became a rage among youngsters, and also topped the music chart.
