Second Tiger Cub Dies In Nandankanan Zoo
Bhubaneswar, April 14 : Another tiger cub under hand rearing in the Nandankanan Zoo died on Thursday while undergoing treatment, taking the total casualty in the Zoo to two during the last three days. Nandankanan Zoo Deputy Director Ranjit Kumar said one year old tiger cub who was responding to the treatment in the Zoo hospital died on Tuesday due to pneumonia . On Thursday another tiger cub born to Rupa and Rajesh, both of Nandankanan origin and housed in the tiger safari, died while under hand rearing. The Zoo Deputy Director said out of three cubs born to white tigress Rupa, one died at the time of birth while the two other cubs were rejected by the mother due to their weak immunity. The tiger cub that died on Thursday was a normal coloured one and was having fever for the last three days. The cub, he said, was responding to the treatment and even took milk during the hand rearing but suddenly collapsed on Thursday. Ranjit Kumar said the one year old cub who died on Tuesday had a fracture and was recovering to treatment . The cub was hospitalized as it could not walk due to the fracture and died of pneumonia while undergoing treatment in the hospital. With the death of two tiger cubs in the Nandankanan Zoo , the population of tigers in the zoo has come down to 26 now
