Alleged Post-PRI Poll Insult: Wife Too Leaves Mortal World
Bhubaneswar, Mar 22: A Panchayat poll candidate, who had consumed poison following her husband’s death over alleged criticism by winning party’s supporters in Bhadrak district, died today after battling for life over the past week.
On 10th day of her husband Ramakanta Parida’s demise, Sumati Parida, had lost the battle of her own life, while undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack today. As per report, Smati had contested and lost for the post of Panchayat Samiti member in recently over rural body elections of Odsha.
She had taken the extreme step to end her life on March 13 after her husband died by suicide on the fateful night.
Ramakanta Parida, the resident of Bada Agapur village in Padmapur panchayat under Basudevpur Block in Bhadrak district, had hung himself in-house after allegedly being harassed by the supporters of winner and consequent rift with wife over the same.
The incident occurred on March 13 evening when a grand procession was taken out by the winner party at Padmapur Panchayat to celebrate party’s victory in the Panchayat Elections, whose results were announced following three-day-long vote counting in the last week of February.
As per allegations by deceased person’s family, Ramakanta was teased for his wife’s defeat, by the winning party’s supporters while seeing the procession in front of his house. Under immense mental stress, he hung himself from a ceiling. He was immediately taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Bhadrak, where he was declared dead.
Following the fateful incident, wife Sumati consumed poison to end her life. The villagers rushed her to the Bhadrak hospital and later she was shifted to the SCB Hospital.
