Bhubaneswar May 19: In view of the detection of Tomato Flu cases in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Odisha government has started its preparedness in advance to fight the flu.
Suspecting detection of Tomato Flu cases in Odisha, the State government has reportedly started making all arrangements at Sishu Bhawan in advance. It has made a 12-bedded special ward ready for the treatment of Tomato Flu cases, if detected in Odisha.
- Tomato flu or tomato fever is a viral disease that results in rashes or blisters, skin irritation and dehydration in the affected individuals. But whether its causative agent is related to chikungunya, a viral fever or dengue fever remains uncertain.

Symptoms of Tomato flu
- High fever
- Dehydration
- Rashes, skin irritation; hand and legs skin colour can also change
- Blisters
- Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
- Runny nose, cough, sneeze
- Tiredness and body ache
- Causes of Tomato Flu
- The flu is still largely unidentified and the causes are not exactly known. Whether it’s a new viral or an aftereffect of dengue/chikungunya is still being debated.
Treatment of Tomato flu
- If a child is showing symptoms, they should be taken to the doctor immediately.
- Kids should be kept hydrated.
- The blisters or rashes should not be scratched and proper cleanliness and hygiene should be maintained.
- Members of family and friends should avoid any close contact with the infected person.
- The patients should take proper rest to avoid the long-lasting effects of the fever.
