Manipal Hospitals Launches Tobacco Cessation Clinic
Panaji, Feb 4 : Manipal Hospitals launched Goa’s first tobacco cessation clinic on Friday. On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the hospital rolled out twin initiatives. One, a tobacco clinic in association with the National Organization of Tobacco Eradication to foster better-quality life for people.
And two, a program to encourage cancer survivors in the state. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of Oncology Department at Manipal Hospitals Goa, said, “The principle of the tobacco cessation clinic is to treat smoking like any other ailment — with medication, to prevent cravings; with strategies, to deal with situations in which the urge to smoke is high; and with nicotine replacement therapy, to counter and tide over instances in which the desire to smoke makes one overwhelmingly uncomfortable.
” Renowned playback singer and lyricist Hema Sardesai encouraged the cancer survivors to present the audience to live a Happier Life. Hema is also a social worker and had lost her husband to cancer.
