Bhubaneswar, July 31 : The daily Covid load in Odisha again crossed the 1000 mark as 1029 new cases were detected in the past 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 13,13,145, health and family welfare department sources said on Sunday.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 1029 new cases, 602 were recorded from the quarantine centres and 427 as local contact cases.
Sundargarh district reported the highest number of 229 cases followed by Khordha (173), Sambalpur(93), Mayurbhanj (70) and Cuttack (68).
These five districts together accounted for 55.6 percent of the new covid cases reported in the state in the last 24 hours.
Official sources said two covid patients – one each from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack – succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours, pushing the total fatalities in the state to 9140.
The active cases in the state have marginally declined to 6608 in the past 24 hours from 6632 recorded the previous day.
Sundargarh district registered the highest number of 1484 cases followed by Khordha (1272) and Mayurbhanj (500). These three districts have contributed almost 50 percent of the total active cases in the state.
The state’s Test positivity Rate(TPR), which was below five percent for the last few days, rose to 5.16 percent in the past 24 hours.
Sources said at least seven out of 30 districts in the state have recorded a TPR above 7.5 percent and have been categorised as Red Zones.
As many as 1051 covid patients were cured from the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the total recoveries in the state to 12,97,344.
State Health and Family Welfare minister Naba Kishore Das has said the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) at Bhubaneswar will soon conduct the Monkeypox tests. The state government had sought permission from the centre to allow the RMRC, Bhubaneswar to conduct the tests.
The government, Das said, had also convened a meeting of the experts and senior doctors to discuss the strategies to deal with the Monkeypox cases in the state.
