So the process of opposition unity has kick-off by none other than the chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, who recently walked out of the NDA and shook hands with the RJD to form the grand alliance.
An alliance which has fuelled a feeling among all the non-BJP parties that, by 2024 Lok Sabha polls a wall of resistance by the opposition can only bring about a change in Indian politics.
Earlier, Nitish, who was earlier shying away from any claim to head a united opposition for 2024 polls, now has come forward at least to play a negotiator role.
On Saturday he has openly said that, the defections within the JD(U) engineered by the saffron party has exposed its ‘real character’. And that could be the provocation Nitish does not want to brook.
Calling such deeds as ‘unconstitutional’, Nitish has said that, it is time to win the confidence of all the opposition parties for unity.
For the BJP, the efforts to disturb the Hemant Soren dispensation is still in a fluid state as Soren is trying to resort to legal options so that, before that he can install his wife Kalpana Soren as the chief minister so that, the power remains within his control.
If Hemant succeeds then that shall be a consecutive setback for the BJP after the Bihar debacle.
Nitish is likely to meet Sonia Gandhi over the issue of opposition unity. However, two days back Nitish has met Telengana chief minister KCR regarding coming together of all the opposition parties.
Since Nitish Kumar led government in Bihar enjoys the Congress support also, Kumar can hope that, Sonia and Rahul would agree to go for several such initiatives before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
