Jan 27: A retired teacher, Clive Jones, 66, says that he is the “world’s most prolific sperm donor” after claiming that he has fathered 129 children. A resident of Chaddesden, Derby in the UK, has been donating his sperm for nine years.
Jones said that he was unable to become an official sperm donor as he started donating at the age, 58 and banks have an upper donor age limit of 45. He said that he donates his sperm for free through Facebook as it brings “happiness” to families. The couples who are often of same-sex or cannot have children of their own are the happiest-ever, says Jones.
“I’m probably the world’s most prolific sperm donor with now being at 138 ‘babies’, well, 129 babies born, nine ongoing pregnancies. I might continue for another few years. Get to 150 anyway,” Jones was quoted in a publication.
He said, “I know of clinics and sperm merchants with greater numbers but they don’t donate, but rather sell semen.”
He added, “I think people would understand more if they saw the messages I get and the photos of the babies with very happy mothers. I feel the happiness it brings. I once had a grandmother message me thanking me for her grand-daughter.”
Jones said, “I do it for free, though sometimes ask a bit for petrol. It’s illegal to charge and doesn’t seem right to take money when I have more than them.”
The 66-year-old has not advertised that he’s a donor for years and people have contacted him through referring.
Jones said that he has met 20 of the 129 children he claims to have fathered.
However, the Human Fertilizations and Embryology Authority has issued a medical warning regarding Jones’ actions, saying all donors and patients should be treated at a licensed UK clinic.
A spokeswoman for the authority said, “As the regulator of UK fertility treatment and research we don’t have the powers to stop people from making their own arrangements for sperm donation but we do want to help them get the information and advice they need to make the best informed choices, which is why we always encourage both donors and patients to be treated at a licensed UK clinic.”
She added that there can be medical and legal risks.
