A police-public scuffle broke out in Sambalpur in Odisha on Monday as the protest over the setting up of a permanent High Court bench in the district continued.
The protesters and police clashed when the former was agitating at the Kacheri Chhak. The police attempted to disperse the crowd but it led to a clash.
The protesters had gathered to demand the setting up of a permanent High Court bench in Sambalpur. The demand has been going on for years, with the protesters claiming that the district was deliberately ignored by the state government.
It is pertinent to mention that the Supreme Court has directed the Bar Council of India to suspend the licenses of agitating lawyers in several districts of Odisha.
However, the lawyers have said that they will not back down from their demand even if their licenses are suspended or they are arrested.
