Krishnanagar (West Bengal) Nov 9 : West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday accused the BJP of “misleading” the people through a campaign of “lies”.
“What did the BJP do, who lied and misled the people to get Lok Sabha and Assembly seats. When the election comes, issue of NRC (National Register of Citizens) comes to their mind. When the election comes, they do politics with Matuas (a scheduled caste community comprising mostly people who migrated from Bangladesh),” Banerjee alleged.
She also accused the BJP of making efforts to divide West Bengal and create fissures between communities.
Addressing a public meeting at the Krishnanagar Government College grounds here, the TMC chief asked the people whether the elected public representatives belonging to the BJP have done anything for their welfare.
“Why did you vote for them? Have they done anything for you?” she asked.
On the citizenship issue for Matuas, the chief minister said “their children go to school, they avail of government welfare schemes like Lakshmi Bhandar, they have the right to education and inherit property. How could they get all these they were not citizens!”
On the issue of the spread of Dengue virus, the chief minister said the infection has taken a “terrible shape” in the state. The number of those infected and fatalities are increasing gradually.
She advised everybody to be careful in such a situation.
“Municipalities and panchayats must be careful. Water and garbage cannot be allowed to accumulate.”
However, she said incidents of Dengue will decrease as winter sets in.
The chief minister is in Nadia on a three-day visit.
