Last rites of former Odisha Speaker to be performed with full state honours

Bhubaneswar, Sep 3 : The last rites o former Odisha Assembly Speaker Surya Narayan Patra who passed away at a private hospital here on Saturday would be performed at his native place Digapahandi in Ganjam district on Sunday with full state honour.

His son Biplab Patra said the last rites of his late father would be performed at around 3-30 PM.

Earlier in the morning Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited Patra’s residence at Nabapalli in the capital city and paid his last tribute to the departed leader. He also expressed his sympathies to the bereaved family members.

In addition to the Chief Minister several ministers of Odisha, political leaders of various political parties, his relatives and hundreds of his well wishes gathered in front his house to pay their last tribute.

After the Chief Minister paid his visit , the body was taken to Sankha Bhawan, the state party head office of BJD to enable the party leaders to pay their last respect to the great leader.

From the party office, the body was taken to the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

A guard of honour was given to the former Speaker after the body reached the state Assembly and the members of the Assembly paid their last tribute.

From the state Assembly the body was taken taken to Digapahandi via Berhampur.
