Veteran Telugu Actor Krishna no more

Hyderabad, Nov 15: Seventy-nine-year-old Veteran Telugu Actor and former Congress party MP Ghattameneni Krishna died due to multi-organ failure while undergoing treatment at Continental Hospitals here on Tuesday.

The mortal remains of Krishna would be shifted to his residence at Nanakramguda from the Hospital in an hour from now. Later it will be taken to Gachibowli stadium to enable his millions of fans to pay homage to their departed actor.

Hospitals Chairman and Managing Director Dr Guru N Reddy in a bulletin said ‘Over the last 24 hours, Shri Ghattameneni Krishna Garu continued to remain in an extremely criticial state, following his admission to our emergency ward in cardiac arrest and upon resuscitation shifted to ICU.

He remained critically ill with multi-organ failure and severe hypoxic brain injury. All necessary acute critical care treatment was provided by various consultants, Dr Reddy said.

It was decided late evening with family members and all the consultants not to pursue further supportive care given his dismal prognosis and to keep him final moments ‘painless and painful’.

The Hospitals CMD said he expired in the early hours of morning at 4.09 am.

Losing both parents within a couple of months is tragic,’ Telangana Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao tweeted.

Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and Telugu Desam Party National President N Chandrababu Naidu condoled the death of Krishna.

Krishna is survived by a son and actor Mahesh Babu, and daughters Padmavati, Manjula, and Priyadarshini.

His passing comes barely weeks after the demise of his first wife Indira Devi on September 28 this year.

Krishna’s second wife Vijaya Nirmala passed away in 2019. His eldest son Ramesh Babu died in January 2022.

Condolences have been pouring in from film personalities across the country, political dignitaries, and millions of fans.

In a film career spanning five decades, he starred in more than 350 films in a variety of roles.

He is the last among the five legends who literally ruled the Telugu film world from the 60s to the 80s with the other being N.T. Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageshwar Rao, Shobhan Babu and Krishnam Raju.
