Sean Penn’s 2nd Visit To Ukraine Amid War
Kyiv, March 29: Hollywood actor Sean Penn has made his second visit to Ukraine amid war to help with the charity programmes for refugees. Taking to Twitter on Monday, the actor said, “I was in Lviv, Ukraine today with CORE team, strategizing with local governance and NGO’s to scale up our in-country programs. Good meeting with Governor Maksym Kozytskyy.”
He also posted a photo alongside Maxim Kozitsky, head of Lviv’s regional administration. According to BBC, Penn was in the capital, Kyiv, filming a documentary at the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Since then, his charitable organisation had been working to housing and education for Ukrainian refugees in Poland. Ahead of the Oscars, the ‘Mystic River’ actor’ vowed to “smelt” his awards if the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences do not invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the live telecast of the ceremony.
Speaking in an interview with CNN, he said, “There is nothing greater that the Academy Awards could do than to give (Zelenskyy) an opportunity to talk to all of us. “It is my understanding that a decision has been made not to do it. That is not me commenting on whether or not President Zelenskyy had wanted to… If the (Academy has) elected not to pursue the leadership in Ukraine, who are taking bullets and bombs for us, along with the Ukrainian children that they are trying to protect, then I think every single one of those people and every bit of that decision will have been the most obscene moment in all of Hollywood history. “If it comes back to it, I will smelt mine in public.”
