Bommai’s spiky jibe at Sonia : Sonia left after walking half-a-kilometer

Bengaluru, Oct 6 : While disclaiming that the Bharat Jodo Yatra would have any impact in Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday wrapped around Sonia Gandhi a spiky jibe by saying that the Congress leader walked for half-a-kilometer and left from the march.

“She (Sonia) walked for half-a-kilometer and left. That’s okay. The BJP has nothing to do with it (BHarat Jodo Yatra). No, it will not have any impact on us (BJP),” he told reporters here.

Sonia Gandhi, in the morning, joined the yatra from Mandya. She walked alongside her son Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders for few kilometers.

This is the first time that the AICC President was participating in a public event after a long gap.

The Karnataka-leg of the yatra resumed today after a two-day break due to Dasara celebrations.

Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday had visited Bheemana Kolli Temple and offered prayers on the occasion of Vijayadashami festival.

Replying to a question, Bommai said the upcoming BJP’s rallies are not a counter to Bharat Jodo Yatra. In fact the party had drawn up the rallies much before the Congress yatra, he added.

To a question on the ruling BJP planning rallies and state wide travel of its leaders, to counter Congress’ yatra, he said these were all planned much earlier.

“The party had decided to hold a series of rallies after Dasara celebrations. This was planned much earlier. We did not hold them due to the monsoon session of the state assembly,” he said.

Asked about his possible Delhi visit to discuss cabinet expansion, Bommai said, “I will let you know before going.”
